Deadline and How to Apply

  • Deadline for submissions of the composition and the payment of the registration fee is Friday 7 July 2017. Works submitted after this date, or candidates who have not paid the registration fee shall not be considered.   
  • The application should include

  1. The composer’s full name
  2. Nationality
  3. email address 
  4. telephone number 
  5. Proof of the application fee payment (if possible)

Fess

  • The entry fee for the competition is Euros €50 or British Sterling £50 payable and due by the submission deadline to either one of the following accounts. The application fee will be accepted either in Euros or British Sterling and must to be paid before the deadline 7 July 2017.
  • If you want to pay via PayPal,  PayPal payment button is at the bottom of this page. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can pay via PayPal with a credit or debit card.  
  • With PayPal you can only pay in British Sterling £50. Unfortunately PayPal does not accept payment in euros for this account. Euro payment can be made only via Bank Transfer, details below.

Rules

  • The work shall not exceed 12 minutes in duration.
  • The string section must be no more than 6-4-4-4-2, any divisi has to fit within this string size. 
  • The composition could feature a solo violin, viola or cello with the string orchestra.
  • Name of the composer should not be written anywhere in the score.
  • The applicants are welcome to name the submitted work and apply under a pseudonym if they wish too. Said pseudonym, however, may only be used until the start of the competition. Please note that the use of a pseudonym name is not compulsory and is not a requirement, is an option for the composer if they would like to use a pseudonym. 
  • The submitted work need not to have been composed exclusively for the London Music Society 2017 International Composer's Competition. Meaning it could have been performed previously.    
  • The work may have been performed earlier but it may not have been awarded a prize. 
  • In case the work has already been performed and recorded, a recording of the performance is recommended to be send in the application. Acceptable formats MP3 or ACC (audio streaming link or download link like Dropbox, WeTransfer would also be accepted). No WAV or AIFF files. The composer may also submit a mp3 file of the notation program playback e.g. Sibelius and Finale.
  • The panel will meet in July and the winners are expected to be announced by the end of July 2017.
